In ancient times, the royal guards of Joseon Dynasty performed the given task by guarding the Gwanghwamun Gate, the entrance of Gyeongbokgung Palace where the king ruled the country. Since 1469, the ceremony has taken place, with the present reenactment ceremony being based on historical records for authenticity.

The reenactment of the original ceremony began from 1996. The gate guardsmen serve their sentry, perform the changing of the guards, and hold a parade. The guards' uniforms, weapons, and accessories as well as their strict ceremonial procedures catch the eyes of passersby, especially foreign tourists. Since it is hard to experience traditional events in such a big city like Seoul, the change of the guards ceremony is a great opportunity. It takes place every day except Tuesday.

Performance Times:
Sumunjang (Royal Guard) Changing Ceremony: 10:00, 14:00 / 20 minutes per ceremony
Gwanghwamun Gate Guard-on-Duty Performance: 11:00, 13:00 / 10 minutes per ceremony
Sumungun (Gatekeeper) Military Training (outside Hyeopsaengmun Gate):  09:35, 13:35 / 15 minutes per ceremony

Transportation:
[Subway]
Gyeongbokgung Station (Seoul Subway Line 3), Exit 5.
Gwanghwamun Station (Seoul Subway Line 5), Exit 2.

The main character! :)

Do you remember the first Korean drama that captured your heart? The hallyu or korean wave continues to take us by storm and it won't stop anytime soon!

Ever since I've watched Goong (Princess Hours), my all-time favorite K-drama, a trip to South Korea is at the top of my dream destinations list! Starring Yoon Eun Hye and Ju Ji Hoon, it's a romantic comedy series based on the Korean manhwa, Goong. This modern-day royal story revolves around Shin Chae-kyung, a commoner, who marries the Crown Prince Lee Shin. Remember the colorful traditional royal wedding ceremony and other customs from the series? It introduced me to the beauty of the culture of Korea.

This year, during the Spring season, my family went to visit Korea for the first time. Truly, it's one of the best seasons! Seoul is painted pink as it is surrounded with enchanting cherry blossoms.
National Folk Museum of Korea
A day in our itinerary is to explore one of Seoul's Royal Palaces, the representative legal palace of the Joseon dynasty, known as Gyeongbokgung Palace. But for a unique and once-in-a-lifetime experience, we decided to wear a hanbok - Korea's traditional clothing.

Spring is beautiful in Korea!

With the use of Discover Seoul Pass, we were able to wear a hanbok for 90 minutes! Hanboknam is located near Gyeongbokgung and Bukchon Hanok Village. I highly suggest that you go early as a lot of people will surely try on a hanbok!
If you don't have a Pass, there are hanbok rental stores tucked in Bukchon and other nearby areas. Each rental stores differ in prices, depending on the style (traditional or special), additional accessories and period of rental ranges from four hours to twenty-four hours.

So here are some of the photos from our hanbok experience in Gyeongbokgung. Admission is also free when wearing a hanbok! Make the most of your Korea trip with this experience! :)
Royal Family :)

There are various activities available to experience Korea’s traditions; the most popular of these experiences among international tourists is pottery-making. Visitors can make their own work, starting from a simple ball of clay and turning it into a beautiful piece of art with their own personal design. The city of Icheon in Gyeonggi-do is famous for ceramics, leading to the creation of many programs relating to ceramics. Visitors can learn about the history and culture surrounding traditional pottery, as well as experience making their own item. Participants can take their final products home that day, or have them airmailed later for an additional fee.

Views of Oryukdo Island & Oryukdo Skywalk
Oryukdo Island is off the southern coast of Busan, and depending on the day and the tide, may appear to be five islands or six islands, hence its name ('o' meaning five and 'yuk' meaning six in Korean). Designated a monument of Busan, Oryukdo Island is a rock island that can be said to be made purely of stones.

Oryukdo Skywalk - Visitors will be thrilled with the view of the waves while looking down through the transparent floor. The sea stretches out ahead of the skywalk, perfect for a photo op, as well as the best spot to see Daemado Island on sunny days.
